Morphology of shocked lateral outflows in colliding hydrodynamic flows

چکیده
Supersonic interacting flows occurring in phenomena, such as protostellar jets, give rise to strong shocks and have been demonstrated several laboratory experiments. To study colliding flows, we use the AstroBEAR AMR code conduct hydrodynamic simulations three dimensions. We introduce variations flow parameters of density, velocity, cross-sectional radius order propagation conical shape bow shock formed by collisions between two, not necessarily symmetric, hypersonic flows. find that motion interaction region is driven imbalances ram pressure two while structure a result shocked lateral outflows being deflected from horizontal when are differing cross sections.

Entropic-acoustic instability in shocked accretion flows
A new instability mechanism is described in accretion flows where the gas is accelerated from a stationary shock to a sonic surface. The instability is based on a cycle of acoustic and entropic waves in this subsonic region of the flow. When advected adiabatically inward, entropy perturbations trigger acoustic waves propagating outward. If a shock is present at the outer boundary, acoustic wave...
متن کاملRadiative cooling instability in 1D colliding flows
Radiative shock waves show a strong cooling instability at temperatures above approximately 2 · 10K. We numerically investigate this instability by simulating different astronomical objects in which colliding flows play an outstanding role: Wind bubbles, supernova remnants, and colliding winds. Computing the flow of each object over a large part of its evolutionary time and resolving all physic...

We discuss relative velocities and the collision rate of small particles suspended in a highly turbulent fluid. In the limit where the viscous damping is very weak, we estimate the relative velocities using the Kolmogorov cascade principle. متن کاملTwo-dimensional AMR simulations of colliding flows
Context. Colliding flows are a commonly used scenario for the formation of molecular clouds in numerical simulations. Due to the thermal instability of the warm neutral medium, turbulence is produced by cooling. Aims. We carry out a two-dimensional numerical study of colliding flows in order to test whether statistical properties inferred from adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) simulations are robu...
